Results – Final Week of 2009-2010 Season
The Association's Finals Night at the Hobby Horse was a huge success with
over 30 Members watching some fine table tennis and enjoying a superb
buffet laid on by the pub.  The Juniors final between Mathew Short and
Harry Woodland provided some of the best table tennis of the night - Mathew
eventually winning by only a one point margin over 3 sets.  Mathew Short
partnered veteran Rod Richards to defeat Kerry Manicom and Tony Burrows in
the doubles final by a total of 6 points.  Toby Kerslake and Hamish
Cuthbertson completed a highly successful night for the Associations

Juniors by defeating Ben Sellick and Tony Burrows respectively in the
Handicap Singles and Consolation Singles finals.
The Veterans final was won by Dave Veale who came back from a first set
defeat to Mike Dibble to eventually win by 13 points over 3 sets.
The singles final produced table tennis of the highest quality as Chris
Norman took on Vince Court.  Norman got off to a flying start to take the
first two sets but Court fought back to win the third.  Normans form has
been exceptional throughout the season and he stepped up another gear to
take the fourth set and the match.

First Division fixtures have now been completed and Washford have been
confirmed as Champions.  Ells Angels could only managed a draw in each of
their final two games so have to settle for the Runners Up spot.  The first
draw came at Wiveliscombe for whom David Woodland ended a fine season with
a hard earned maximum.  Angels led 6-3 but Wivi fought back to force a
draw.  Stogumber A also held Angels to a 6-6 scoreline despite a superb
maximum from Sam Ell.  Ell produced a mix of ruthless attacking play to
defeat Martyn Summerell and then put on a defensive masterclass to beat
David Bryant.
Three of West Somerset's most promising Juniors, Toby Kerslake, Michael
Hodgson and Harry Woodland competed in the Somerset County Cadet
Championships at St. Augustines School on Sunday 9th May.  All three
players did West Somerset proud with their performances.  Harry Woodland
won two of his group games and Toby Kerslake progressed to the Under 15
Semi Final.  Despite losing three matches Michael Hodgson also played
exceptionally well and like his team mates looked perfectly at ease in
competing against the very best Juniors in Somerset.
Players are reminded that Club Nights will continue throughout the Summer
at the Hobby Horse, Tuesdays after 8pm and Wednesdays from 7.00pm.
